Wales

After our long travel-day from England towards Wales, we arrived in the Gower area (South Wales).

We visited Rhossili Bay here. A beautiful, typical beach in South Wales where you can make awesome hikes.

The banner from this page is taken at this place.

On our travel day to the north of Wales we stopped by ‘Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch’, yes this is really a place name and not a typo ;). It’s known as the longest village name in the world. We stopped for a photo but did not dare to try and pronounce the name of the village.

Afterwards we discovered the beautiful area of Llandwyn. The idyllic beach with the clear blue water is beautiful and I (Lien) personally did not associate it with the wet climate of Wales. A nice surprise!

General tip: The parking of Llandwyn island is paid. If you stay for a short time, the cost is very good. Overnight parking is prohibited, it’s clearly indicated.

Visiting South stack lighthouse was next on the agenda. It’s a very cute light house. The area around the lighthouse is known for spotting puffins, unfortunately we didn’t see any.

General tip: During the period we were here (April 2022), park4night stated that you could still park for free or with a small cost in the car parks around the lighthouse. Unfortunately this has recently changed and you pay quite a lot to be allowed to stand here. Our advice, find another wild camping spot in the area.

After our short visit to Wales we drove on towards Scotland.

We made a stop in Conwy where we visited the cute village and the famous Conwy castle.

tips for visiting Wales: If you’re short on time and really want to discover the best of Wales, we prefer North Wales. In the south of Wales there is not much special in terms of fauna and flora. You do have big cities here, but we skipped these. The travel time from south to north in Wales is immensely long, at just 288km we drove more than 5 hours! Loads of bumpy road with nice for the views but annoying for the long travel-time.. Our advice is to skip South Wales and take more time to discover the beautiful nature of North Wales.

We would have liked to visit Snowdonia national park, unfortunately this was not ideal due to foggy weather conditions.

After visiting Wales, we continue our road trip to Scotland! We also wrote a blog post about this.
